As New Jersey’s energy needs evolve, the PSE&G-sponsored Clean Energy Jobs Program is helping prepare the skilled workforce delivering energy efficiency to customers and communities across the state. is helping prepare the skilled workforce delivering energy efficiency to customers and communities across the state.
When a New Jersey family makes their home more energy efficient or a business upgrades its equipment to save energy, skilled workers help make it happen.
Since 2020, the Clean Energy Jobs Program has helped New Jerseyans prepare for clean energy careers, connect with job opportunities and build skills they can use throughout their careers.
As the clean energy industry changes, we’re expanding those efforts, introducing students to career possibilities earlier, preparing job seekers for emerging roles and providing monthly training so that experienced workers can strengthen their skills.
“A skilled workforce is essential to delivering energy efficiency programs to customers,” said Shaun Fine, senior director of Workforce Development and Operations for our Clean Energy Solutions group. “Our Clean Energy Jobs Program has helped more than 11,000 New Jerseyans and continues to create career opportunities that reflect industry needs, helping people develop the skills to pursue meaningful careers and connect with employment opportunities through our external partners. It’s about opening doors for New Jerseyans while building the skilled workforce our state needs.”
How is PSE&G empowering clean energy careers?
Through the Clean Energy Jobs Program, we’re developing training based on skills employers and our vendor network say they need. One of the newest focuses is preparing workers to become energy auditors, professionals who identify ways to improve a building’s energy efficiency.
Working with industry partners, we developed a new Junior Energy Auditor training pathway for the program’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) initiative. Five participants in the 11th OJT cohort are enrolled in customized training and working toward industry credentials to prepare them for the role.
“We’re constantly listening and working with our partners, trade allies and vendors to understand where we can create opportunities,” said Jamar, senior manager of the Clean Energy Jobs Program. “The goal is to connect people with opportunities that can lead to good-paying careers while helping build the skilled workforce our industry needs.”
Their addition brings the latest cohort to 30 participants, representing our largest cohort yet. Altogether, the OJT initiative has helped prepare 170 people for clean energy careers since the program’s inception.
Former participant Jalila Al-Khalil exemplifies what that career growth can look like. She entered the industry through the Clean Energy Jobs Program’s first OJT cohort in 2020, and, five years later, has advanced from the role of project coordinator to Energy Efficiency Adviser. Today, she works directly with PSE&G-certified trade allies, helping contractors move energy efficiency projects through the pipeline.
Additionally, we’re reaching future workers earlier. This summer, 15 rising seniors from Mercer County Technical Schools participated in the inaugural Clean Energy HVAC Career Exploration Program.

The five-week paid experience combined hands-on HVAC training, professional development and industry certifications, giving these high school students an opportunity to explore clean energy careers before graduation.
The Clean Energy HVAC Career Exploration Program builds on the success of the OJT Program by introducing students to the industry before they graduate, helping them gain the experience and certifications they need for success while offering them a pathway to careers that will help power New Jersey’s energy future.
Following the pilot, the goal is to potentially expand the offshoot program to additional counties.
How does the Clean Energy Jobs Program help workers grow their careers?
Building a strong clean energy workforce isn’t only about helping someone find a job. It’s about giving workers opportunities to strengthen their skills and advance their careers.
Since the program’s implementation, more than 1,200 people have participated in our Monthly Training Program with participation continuing to grow year over year. As of September, participation in 2026 was up 42% compared with the same period in 2025. The curriculum has grown as well. This summer, we introduced Total Building Performance, an advanced capstone course that brings the curriculum to 11 offerings.
By continuing to expand training opportunities, we’re helping workers build skills they can use on the job and as they continue their careers in the clean energy industry.
Where can New Jersey job seekers find clean energy opportunities?
Interest in clean energy careers is growing. Since the Clean Energy Jobs online platform launched in March 2022, thousands of individuals have created profiles to explore and apply for opportunities in the industry across our service territory. In the past nine months alone, the platform added more than 1,600 registrations.
From introducing students to clean energy careers to helping experienced workers build new skills, we’re helping create more ways for New Jerseyans to enter, stay and grow in the industry. And we look forward to continuing the collaboration with partners at the state and community level to ensure these workforce development efforts are aligned with our customers’ energy needs.
That investment reaches beyond any one career. It helps strengthen the network of skilled workers, contractors, trade allies and union labor helping deliver energy efficiency programs to homes and businesses across New Jersey.
