Ready to be there: Real stories of employees going beyond the call

For over 120 years, PSE&G has proudly provided safe and reliable service to our customers.

And while the energy that runs through wires and pipes in our communities powers your homes and businesses, the real energy is in the people who show up for our customers every day — often in ways you may not always see. PSE&G is not just your utility company, we are your neighbor and your trusted energy provider, someone you can count on.

Our employees often live in the communities they serve. They’re parents, coaches and friends. And when emergencies happen, they’re ready to be there, respond and care for our communities. Here are just a few recent examples that remind us what it means to care for the communities we serve.

Extinguishing risk on the roadside

When one of our WorryFree Service technicians was on his way to a service call in Union, NJ, he came across something unexpected: a vehicle stopped on the side of the road with flames rising from under the hood.

Moments like this call for action and our employee didn’t hesitate.

He safely pulled over, grabbed his fire extinguisher from his service truck and quickly assessed the situation using his training. With steady focus and the right precautions, he worked to contain and extinguish the fire before it could spread or create risk to the driver or public.

His response reflects the grit and readiness our teams bring to every situation, planned or unexpected. By stepping in, our employee helped protect not just the driver, but the surrounding community as well.

For us, safety isn’t just part of the job. It’s who we are — on every street, in every neighborhood, every day.

Situational awareness in action

In Northern NJ, our employee Alex, noticed a vehicle moving slowly through a parking lot, with occupants appearing to look inside parked PSE&G vehicles. Something didn’t feel right — and he trusted that instinct.

Keeping his training in mind, Alex contacted local police to handle the situation. That decision led to the arrest of individuals believed to be connected to a series of burglaries and home invasions in the area.

This is a great example of “See Something, Say Something” culture, which helps drive safe outcomes for all.

Alex’s awareness and judgment not only helped protect company property but also contributed to the safety of the community.

Identifying a hidden hazard before it caused harm

During routine work in Fair Lawn, NJ, our mobile service mechanic Greg demonstrated the kind of focus, discipline and application of PSE&G training that keeps customers safe.

After completing a gas service line replacement, he began standard pre-relight safety checks. In that process, he identified a significant crack in the homeowner’s flue pipe — something that could have led to serious consequences if left unaddressed.

Greg acted immediately. He informed the homeowner, escalated the issue for further inspection and ensured the proper safety protocols were followed.

He also took the time to talk with the customer about the importance of working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors — because safety doesn’t stop at the job site.

This is skilled training in practice: staying sharp, following through and bringing precision and care to every detail.

Protecting community and infrastructure starts with attention to detail — and people like Greg who bring that focus every day.

An unexpected wildlife discovery and rescue

A routine workday in Englewood, NJ, took an unexpected turn when our Palisades Division employees discovered two mourning doves nestled in the back of their bucket truck. Unsure when the birds had climbed aboard, chief Joe reached out to his supervisor Anthony, who contacted Rebecca, one of our environmental services specialists, for help.

After searching for the mother without success, Rebecca determined the young doves needed professional care.

The team gently placed them in a warm, rag‑lined box and transported them to the Raptor Trust Bird Rehabilitation Center in Millington. There, the young doves were safely handed over to experts who could give them the care they needed.

What began as a normal workday became a small but meaningful act of compassion, highlighting that serving our communities means caring for people, animals and the world we share. At PSE&G, that spirit shows up in ways both big and small, guided by our employees’ dedication to helping others and supporting the communities we serve.

This is who we are

These stories are examples of our values in action — and we could not be prouder of all of our employees who embody them.

At its core, a utility may be wires, pipes and power — but it’s the people of PSE&G who bring it to life. In moments of crisis and calm alike, they are the ones who show up, who restore warmth to homes, who ensure safety in the dark and who stand shoulder to shoulder with the communities they serve. Their dedication goes beyond infrastructure — it’s about compassion, resilience and the quiet heroism that keeps New Jersey running strong. These employees were simply showing up when it mattered most — and doing so with professionalism, empathy and skill — because public service never takes a break, and safety is always part of the job.

This is what it means to be an employee of PSE&G. This is what it means to be Jersey Ready.
