Supporting one of the world’s biggest sporting events took years of planning, coordination and teamwork. From inspecting and maintaining equipment that serves MetLife Stadium and surrounding event locations to monitoring our systems and staying ready to respond, every effort reflected the teamwork, pride and dedication our employees bring to their work every day.

When the final whistle blew at MetLife Stadium, the world celebrated an unforgettable FIFA World Cup. More than 2 billion people watched as Spain lifted the trophy before a sold-out crowd in East Rutherford, while countless fans gathered at Fan Fests and watch parties across the region.
For us, the successful conclusion of the tournament demonstrated that years of planning, collaboration and preparation had achieved exactly what they were designed to do—we were Jersey Ready for the World. While fans focused on the action on the field, our employees quietly delivered what they always strive to provide — safe, reliable energy when it mattered most.
We’ve powered New Jersey for more than 120 years, providing reliable electric service to 2.4 million customers and natural gas service to 1.9 million customers. Preparing for an event of this magnitude wasn’t something that began on game day. It was the result of decades of investments as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize our energy system, combined with more than two years of focused planning that began in February 2024.
That preparation included:
- Approximately 100 employees representing gas and electric operations, emergency preparedness, physical and cybersecurity, information technology and more working together across the company.
- Close coordination with the stadium and its partners, state and local public safety agencies, New Jersey law enforcement and regional partners.
- Ongoing electric and gas inspections, infrastructure hardening, emergency preparedness drills as well as practice game-day scenarios and simulations.
- Inspection and monitoring of dozens of electric circuits and gas facilities supporting critical World Cup infrastructure throughout the region.
- Strategically positioned field personnel, multiple contingency plans and around-the-clock operational support throughout the tournament.
The outcome was eight FIFA World Cup matches hosted at MetLife Stadium — including the championship — completed safely and without disruption.
Inside our operations center, teams monitored the energy system in real time while field crews stood ready to respond if needed. Fortunately, thanks to the extensive preparation and coordination that had taken place over the previous two years, they were never called upon to respond to a major incident.
That’s what being Jersey Ready means — anticipating challenges before they happen, preparing for every possibility and delivering reliable service when it matters most.
While the World Cup may only last a short time, our mission remains the same: keeping our customers and communities safely connected, whether we’re responding to severe storms, weathering extreme temperatures or supporting a global event watched by billions.
