New Jersey resident Barbara O.’s story:
I’m a single mom. I work full time at night as a hospice nurse so I am home when my children need me. I never thought I would not have enough money to support my family. But when the rent increased on my two bedroom apartment in Mercer County, we were facing homelessness. I couldn’t afford the rent and juggle late fees on other bills. I was distraught. I didn’t want to fail my kids. I am so thankful that NJ SHARES was able to relieve the burden of my utility bill so that I could manage our expenses and my family could stay in our apartment.
Unfortunately, we hear of experiences like Barbara’s far too often – and know firsthand that a financial crisis can happen to anyone, at any time. All too often, these unexpected circumstances result in the household’s inability to pay for their energy services.
Funded by utility partners like PSE&G and the generous donations from their customers, NJ SHARES is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides assistance to residential energy customers who are not eligible for low-income energy assistance programs. Serving as a “safety-net” for New Jersey resident who are facing an emergency or unforeseen crisis situation, NJ SHARES’ mission is to offer hope and deliver help to those who need it most.
The team at NJ SHARES works tirelessly and cooperatively with various human and social service agencies to address the needs of those facing an unexpected crisis. Each resident is assessed in an individual, holistic manner – ensuring every household receives exactly what they need, whether it is on a one-time or ongoing basis.
NJ SHARES’ outreach and assistance efforts throughout the state of New Jersey would not be possible without the help and support of utility partners like PSE&G.
Through a longstanding partnership with PSE&G, NJ SHARES offers qualified, eligible PSE&G customers the opportunity to apply for assistance through the NJ SHARES Energy Grant. Through this grant, eligible customers can receive up to $700 for heating – gas or electric – and up to $700 for electric service.
But the impact of NJ SHARES’ partnership with PSE&G does not stop there.

Hi I have been calling NJ shares for months and no one calls me back. They don’t follow through with the response I leave. I left many messages and they don’t get back to you. I have a cutoff date on my electric bill. I am a single mother and I am attending college. I have no other way to reach anyone than to post a comment hopng someone would follow up. Is there anyone out there to help?
