Energy efficiency in action across New Jersey

Nearly 480,000 New Jersey customers are benefiting from our energy efficiency programs.

Our energy efficiency programs are helping many of our customers across New Jersey reduce their energy use, better manage their utility costs and improve comfort at home and at work. These programs are designed to meet customers where they are and provide practical, accessible ways to take action.

One customer in Willingboro, New Jersey recently participated in our Home Weatherization program, an income-eligible offering designed to support qualifying households with energy-saving and health and safety improvements. Through the program, the customer received multiple energy-efficient upgrades including a new central air conditioner, added insulation and high-efficiency heating and hot water equipment at no cost.

Before PSE&G’s energy efficiency programs, we had the fireplace on all the time to keep warm, and now we don’t have to do that. This is my forever home, so having it feel comfortable like this means everything.”

Stories like this reflect a broader effort underway across the state. From program implementation in October 2021 through September 2025, nearly 480,000 customers have participated in our energy efficiency programs. Collectively, that participation is delivering more than $900 million in annual utility bill savings1

These savings reflect a wide range of offerings designed to help our customers use less energy and better manage utility costs. Customers can choose solutions that fit their needs, including home energy assessmentsappliance and HVAC rebates, lighting upgrades, equipment improvements and energy-efficient products available through the PSE&G Marketplace.

Program participation continues to grow among our residential and business customers. To date:

  • More than 105,000 home energy assessments have been completed
  • Nearly 350,000 smart thermostats have been sold through the PSE&G Marketplace
  • Approximately 150,000 rebates have been claimed for energy-efficient appliance upgrades
  • Approximately $940 million in rebates have been delivered to help offset the upfront cost of energy-saving improvements2
  • More than 30,000 appliances have been recycled through PSE&G’s recycling program

Energy efficiency also plays an important role for our business customers across the state, from small businesses to large organizations. We offer solutions that help businesses improve operational efficiency and manage their energy use and utility costs, with incentives to help offset the cost of efficiency upgrades, giving these businesses greater flexibility to reinvest resources into other operational priorities.

Approximately 20,000 businesses have implemented more than 32,000 energy efficiency projects through our programs. Among small businesses, about 2,000 have participated through the Direct Install Program3, resulting in nearly $25 million in annual utility bill savings for those customers.

Among participating businesses, St. Joseph’s Health is currently undertaking energy efficiency projects at its facilities in Paterson and Wayne, New Jersey through our Engineered Solutions Program. Supported by our incentives, these projects are expected to help reduce energy use and manage operating costs over time.

“Every dollar we’re not spending on energy is a dollar we can put back into patient care.”

-Scott Reilly, director of maintenance and engineering at St. Joseph’s Health.

Together, residential and business participation in our energy efficiency programs is delivering electric savings4 equivalent to powering about 453,000 homes each year5, and combined electric and natural gas savings are helping avoid carbon emissions6 comparable to removing more than 500,000 gasoline-powered cars from the road for one year7

These results reflect how our programs are designed to meet customers where they are and provide practical, accessible ways to take action. Through this work, we aim to be trusted energy advisors, equipping customers with tools and resources to help manage energy use and utility costs.
