Empowering progress: PSE&G’s energy efficiency initiatives propelling New Jersey toward a cleaner future

Enhancing daily life and reducing costs

Our recent announcement about PSE&G’s Clean Energy Future Energy Efficiency (CEF-EE) initiatives is more than just impressive statistics—it’s a narrative of personal impact and significant savings for New Jersey residents.

The tangible outcomes are evident across New Jersey’s communities. Our energy efficiency programs, which have benefited approximately 1.8 million customers since inception, are empowering homes to conserve energy and reduce consumption, while enabling businesses to operate more efficiently and control costs.  The effects are felt in participating households and business throughout the state.

Of this number, approximately 360,000 customers have already taken action to save energy and money through PSE&G’s suite of energy efficiency programs.  Leading to a projected $445 million in customer savings and a reduction of approximately 1.5 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually. In addition, their collective efforts are projected to conserve more than 2 million megawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power more than 290,000 New Jersey homes.

The savings are the result of various program initiatives, including offering rebates for customers to purchase smart thermostats and power strips, as well as customers upgrading to energy-efficient appliances and conducting approximately 65,000 home energy assessments. For the individual, this translates into lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint, making sustainable living not just a concept, but a practical reality.

A greener, more efficient business community

Moreover, PSE&G’s commercial and industrial (C&I) energy efficiency programs have also yielded impressive results. Specifically, the PSE&G Small Business Direct Install Program has generated collective annual savings of around $10.5 million for participating business customers on their utility bills. This program is also projected to result in savings of 43 thousand megawatt-hours of electricity per year, along with anticipated natural gas savings of approximately 2 million therms annually for participating electric and/or gas business customers.

Collectively, the energy savings from these C&I initiatives are expected to avoid approximately 37 thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, or roughly the equivalent emissions of 8,000 gasoline-powered cars on the road for one year.

Continuing to pave the way forward

“We’re delighted with the ongoing strong results of our energy efficiency initiatives and proud to continue offering our customers energy-efficient options that save them energy and money,” said Karen Reif, PSE&G vice president of Renewables and Energy Solutions. “Our efforts align with New Jersey’s clean energy goals, and we’re committed to working tirelessly to help individuals, businesses, and the state achieve sustainability goals.”

As we continue to lead with our award-winning energy efficiency initiatives, the benefits ripple through New Jersey’s economy, environment and homes. By investing in energy efficiency, we are investing in New Jersey’s future, helping to make it a beacon of sustainability and economic growth. The ongoing efforts to expand and enhance these programs promise a brighter, more efficient future for all New Jersey residents, solidifying our role as a key force in the state’s journey towards clean energy.
