Ever thought about how you could save money on your utility bills and help the environment at the same time? That’s exactly what our energy efficiency programs are all about. Our latest report on our Clean Energy Future Energy Efficiency (CEF-EE) initiatives reveals how these programs are making a real impact, not just on the environment, but also on our customers’ pockets.
Take Henry, the proud owner of a Carvel Ice Cream shop in Pennington, New Jersey, who wanted to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of his store. Through our Small Business Direct Install Program, he upgraded two old rooftop HVAC units, which produced some fantastic results.
“The program saved me $10,000 in installation and maintenance costs,” Henry shared. On top of that, he’s now enjoying annual savings of over $1,600, reduced electricity use, and better cooling efficiency.
Our commercial and industrial programs have also delivered about $12 million in annual savings on utility bills for participating businesses. These initiatives are expected to save 52,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and 2.4 million therms of natural gas each year, avoiding about 44,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
And the savings don’t stop with our business customers. More than 380,000 of our residential customers have embraced these energy-saving offerings. Through various initiatives like home energy assessments and by purchasing smart thermostats and power strips from the PSE&G Marketplace, our customers are on track to save a whopping $484 million annually.
The energy efficiency efforts don’t stop at just lowering bills. By participating in these programs, our customers are helping to cut down on carbon emissions in a big way. We’re talking about avoiding around 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year—that’s like taking 349,000 cars off the road!
For our electric customers, the numbers are just as impressive. They’re expected to save over 2.1 million megawatt-hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power more than 312,000 homes right here in New Jersey for a year. And for natural gas customers, the savings are just as noteworthy, with an expected reduction of about 57 million therms of natural gas annually.
“We’re pleased with the progress our energy efficiency programs are making,” said Karen Reif, vice president of Renewables and Energy Solutions. “These initiatives are allowing customers to cut down on both their utility bills and energy usage, which is a win for everyone.”
So, why not join the many customers who are already cutting down on energy usage and saving money? It’s easy to get started.
