A nor’easter tested New Jersey. PSE&G teams and systems were ready.

Year-round work to strengthen our systems, combined with the dedication of thousands of employees, helped keep you powered through a weekend of heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.

When a powerful nor’easter brought heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding across New Jersey this past weekend, our team was prepared. And our systems demonstrated resilience.

The slow-moving storm cut a destructive path across New Jersey, bringing down trees and damaging poles, wires and other electrical equipment.

Through it all, our crews worked around the clock in difficult conditions to safely restore nearly 70,000 customers. And despite the flooding and severe weather, none of our gas customers experienced a service interruption as a direct result of the storm.

That’s what being Jersey Ready is all about.

This was a powerful, multi-day storm that tested communities across New Jersey and the systems they rely on.

We prepare all year for moments like this by strengthening our infrastructure, maintaining our systems and exercising our restoration process.

I’m proud of the nearly 2,500 employees who worked safely around the clock, looked out for one another and stayed focused on taking care of our customers.”

-Kim Hanemann, President and Chief Operating Officer of PSE&G

The restoration effort included:

How does PSE&G restore power after a major storm?

Restoring service after a storm is difficult work. Our crews spent long hours in wet conditions — including overnight — assessing damage, clearing trees and repairing or replacing equipment.

Doing this work safely depends on more than technical skill. It means looking out for the person next to you, relying on one another and taking the time to do the job the right way so everyone goes home safely.

In some communities, storm damage brought restoration work directly into some of your backyards. We understand the disruption that comes with having crews working close to home, especially during an outage. Our teams worked across those functions toward the same goal: keeping you informed and restoring service safely and as quickly as possible. as quickly as possible.

That dedication extended well beyond the crews in the field. Across our company, employees supported the response through system operations, logistics, customer service and other critical functions. Behind the work was the teamwork, trust and professionalism of nearly 2,500 employees working toward the same goal.

How does PSE&G prepare for severe weather?

Storm preparation happens year-round. Our employees inspect and maintain equipment, trim trees and vegetation and deploy new technologies to strengthen infrastructure and help our energy systems withstand severe weather and recover more quickly when damage occurs. We also practice and exercise our restoration process though drills year-round.

Keeping our customers and communities connected

As restoration continued, keeping you informed is a really important part of the response. We sent text and email messages before and throughout the storm, provided updates through our website and social media channels and worked with the news media to share timely information as conditions changed.

We also stayed connected with communities experiencing some of the greatest impacts, sharing neighborhood-specific information as restoration progressed and helping you understand what to expect.

Ready before the next storm

Severe weather will continue to test New Jersey and the energy grid you rely on. Being ready starts well before the forecast turns severe. It means maintaining equipment, strengthening infrastructure and preparing our people to respond safely when you need us.

This storm put that preparation to work: nearly 70,000 customer outages restored, nearly 2,500 employees supporting the response and no storm-related interruption to gas service.
